From Silay City, we took a jeepney that brought us to Brgy. Bata (Bangga Pepsi) in Talisay City. From there, we hired a tricycle for 150 pesos back and forth. We did not bargain since the driver agreed to wait for us. The way to The Ruins took us about 20 minutes, and it is located in the middle of an extensive sugar plantation.
The Ruins has got to be the most photographed spot in Negros Occidental. When we arrived at the entrance, one of the staff welcomed us, and enthusiastically offered himself to have our pictures taken all over the place. He even talked a little about the history of The Ruins.
We were told that The Ruins is what remained of a grand mansion built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson. It was intentionally burned during World War II in order to prevent the Japanese soldiers from using the place as their headquarters.
In the background is the wonderful fountain which greeted us at the entrance.
The place was abandoned for many years, but one of the great grandchildren of Don Mariano who inherited the land decided to develop it. There is a dining area inside the mansion, and a cafe within the vicinity. Not only did The Ruins become a top attraction in Negros Occidental, but it also opened jobs to Negrenses.
In 2008, The Ruins opened its doors to local and foreign tourists. Currently, it serves as a venue for weddings, family reunions, and pre-nuptial photo shoots.
